About
Meet Debra Monterosso
Debra Monterosso is a Michigan-based artist working primarily in oil and watercolor, with a particular love for landscapes, waterscapes, and the movement and character of water.
Art has been part of Debra’s life since childhood. As a high-school student, her work was selected for local juried art exhibitions, including at least one award-winning piece. She later earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Wayne State University, where her studies focused on oil painting.
Her creative career also includes extensive professional experience as a senior designer in the automotive industry, working with color, materials, leather, PVC, and interior design. That background strengthened an already instinctive understanding of color, texture, balance, and visual storytelling.
Debra’s fine-art work has appeared in a juried exhibition in Midland, Michigan, and one of her pieces was acquired for a corporate collection.
For Debra, creating is an immersive process. Once an idea takes hold, hours can disappear as she works through color, composition, texture, and feeling. Inspiration is rarely something she has to search for—it tends to arrive on its own, often with remarkable clarity.
She is now returning to this part of her creative life with renewed energy and excitement, building a body of work that reflects both her experience and the direction her art is taking today.
Commissions are approached as a collaboration. Debra believes the client’s inspiration, story, and emotional connection to the subject are essential to the finished piece. Her goal is not simply to make something beautiful, but to create something that feels deeply personal to the person who asked for it.
